Hydroxyapatite is an essential component of both bone and teeth. This natural mineral makes up about 97% of tooth enamel and 70% of dentin. HA is also used in a variety of medical applications, including dental implants and hard tissue reconstruction. The most common form of hydroxyapatite is naturally occurring in the human body, but a synthetic version called nano hydroxyapatite (NHA) is also available for use in medicine. NHA is made from a special blend of calcium and phosphorus, forming a dense mineral coating that can help heal damaged or weakened joints. NHA is a great addition to joint replacement surgeries because it helps the bone integrate with the new implant and lessens the risk of rejection by the body. The coating also encourages new bone growth around the implant itself.
