Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is an optical technique used for real time, label free detection of molecular interactions between mobile molecules with molecule immobilized on a thin metal film. Surface plasmon systems are used in pharmaceutical industry for drug discovery, and quality control. The identification of the molecule is based upon the interaction specificity of the molecule attached on the surface. Surface plasmon resonance helps in determining the specificity, affinity, and kinetic properties of the molecule. This generates electron charge density waves called plasmons, reducing the intensity of reflected light at a specific angle known as the resonance angle, in proportion to the mass on a sensor surface. Biacore Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) systems are used primarily in pharmaceutical development, quality control, and basic life science research. Based on the physical mechanism and the peculiar properties of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), emonstrate the major applications of SPPs, such as waveguides, sources, near-field optics, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, data storage, solar cells, chemical sensors and biosensors.
