简介目录

When a patient is suffering from muscle, bone or a joint pain, radiology is commonly used for imaging. It helps to diagnose and treat various conditions within the body. For better understanding of nature of injury these images are necessary. Different techniques most commonly used for obtaining images are X- Ray, Computed Tomography (CT) Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound and bone scan. X-Ray is most commonly used and easy technique. However it is obtained in the form of 2D image. It is series of overlapping shadows hence cannot be used when a 3D image is required for better understanding of nature of injury. Computed Tomography (CT) Scan provides a 3D scan of bones and joints. CT Scans are time consuming and patients are subjected to more radiations than the normal X-Ray. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is used for imaging of soft tissues with the help of magnetic field, so no radiations are involved. But disadvantage is if the metal is present in any body part then the images obtained are blurry. Bone scan can also be obtained by injecting mildly radioactive material into veins. This material is circulated throughout the body. It can detect any inflammation present in a bone or any body part. Ultrasound is another method which is relatively simple but may not give images as clear as MRI scan.
