Market Overview

The global gallbladder treatment market size was valued at US$ XX million in 2021 and is estimated to reach US$ XX million by 2029, growing at a CAGR of XX % during the forecast period (2022-2029).

The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ beneath an individual's liver. This organ aids in the storage of bile produced by the liver and the transfer of that bile through a duct into the small intestine.

Market Dynamics

The factors influencing the global gallbladder treatment market are the increasing technological advancements and the growing prevalence of gallbladder problems.

The increasing technological advancements are expected to drive the global gallbladder treatment market in the forecast period

Gallstones are usually treated by removing the gallbladder surgically. The gallbladder is surgically removed in a cholecystectomy. In most cases (90 percent), this surgery can be done laparoscopically, a less invasive technique that results in less post-operative pain and a faster recovery than traditional cholecystectomy. Gallstones in the bile ducts may need to be removed even if there are no symptoms. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a popular procedure. Because it uses several small incisions rather than one large one, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is minimally invasive. A laparoscope is a small tube that houses a camera. This surgical tool is inserted through a single incision. Due to the camera, a doctor can see the gallbladder on a TV screen. A second, smaller incision is used to remove the gallbladder. Another minimally invasive option for removing gallstones is an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure. The endoscope is a tube-shaped instrument. UCLA researchers have discovered the best way to image the bile ducts during gallbladder removal surgeries using a tried and safe dye and a real-time near-infrared florescence laparoscopic camera. This finding will make the procedure much safer for the hundreds of thousands of people who have it every year. When surgeons examine the liver and surrounding anatomy laparoscopically, the new imaging procedure can be used.

Limitations associated with gallbladder treatment are expected to hamper the market growth

The patient may get an infection after the gallbladder is removed via surgery. Antibiotics may be required if there is pain, swelling, redness, and pus at the incision. Bile leakage is extremely uncommon; only 1% of people with gallbladder removed experience this problem. Other complications include injuries to the bile duct, intestine, bowel, or blood vessels, which may necessitate additional surgery. Damage to the common bile duct is the most feared and fatal cholecystectomy complication. Bile duct injuries became more common with the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but as experience and training in minimally invasive surgery have improved, the incidence of this complication has decreased.

COVID-19 Impact Analysis

Gallbladder inflammation, which results in gangrene in COVID patients, is common in people who have gallstones. Because gallbladder epithelial cells are similar to bile duct cells and have a high concentration of ACE2 receptors, they can be a target for the SARS-CoV-2 virus or the body's dysregulated immune response to the virus resulting in severe gallbladder inflammation. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time post-COVID gangrene has been reported. Some cases of gangrene were discovered in patients who had recovered from COVID during the peak of the second wave. Doctors warn that the high level of inflammation and attack unleashed by the SARS-COV-2 virus increases the risk of gangrene. The lungs are the primary site of COVID-19 infection because they have the most ACE2 receptors, which the virus uses to bind human cells. The gastrointestinal tract (bile duct, gall bladder, and associated structures) has the most ACE2 receptors after the lungs. Hence, the gallbladder treatment market is expected to be impacted by covid-19.

Segment Analysis

Based on disease type, the gallstones segment is expected to dominate the market growth

Gallstones are very common, affecting 10 to 15% of the population in the United States, or nearly 25 million people. Approximately a quarter of the nearly 1 million people diagnosed with gallstones each year will require treatment, which is typically surgery. Cholecystectomy with an open incision. To remove the gallbladder, the doctor makes larger cuts in the stomach. The doctor may use ERCP to locate and remove gallstones in bile ducts before or during surgery. Cholecystectomy is performed laparoscopically. This is the most common gallstone surgery. A laparoscope is a narrow tube that a doctor inserts into the belly through a small cut. It has a camera, a light, and instruments. Another small cut is used to remove the gallbladder. Recent advancements in gallbladder (GB) gallstones (GS) elective treatments have provided many options that may be entering a new therapeutic era. Significantly symptomatic gallstones, as well as GS complications, require treatment. Some experts predicted that surgical cholecystectomy would become the gold standard with many nonoperative options available. However, such treatments are only palliative, leaving a "guilty" gallbladder in place in the presence of lithogenic bile, which invites to recurrence of GS.

Geographical Analysis

North America region is expected to hold the largest market share in the global gallbladder treatment market

The growing prevalence of gallbladder problems and better healthcare facilities in this region is expected to drive the market growth.

Gallstones are a major health issue in developed societies, affecting 10% to 15% of the adult population, implying that 20 to 25 million Americans have (or will have) gallstones. Gallstones are very common, affecting 10 to 15% of the population in the United States, or nearly 25 million people. Approximately a quarter of the nearly 1 million people diagnosed with gallstones each year will require treatment, which is typically surgery. Cholecystectomy, or gallbladder removal surgery, is one of the most common procedures performed on adults in the United States. The gallbladder is not a necessary organ, which means one can live a normal life without it.
