Evolution of Work Survey |
Hybrid working is now a cornerstone of the contemporary work landscape. A large proportion of the workforce is hybrid, and respondents who are primarily office-based often collaborate with colleagues, partners, and clients who are working from home offices or other locations.
Organisations must work to foster productive and cohesive work cultures, and counter the potential difficulties relating to communication, efficiency, productivity, or training that can emerge in hybrid arrangements. Productive hybrid work models rely on a range of software and hardware, creating new demands for and upon work tools and technologies.
The rapid expansion of AI tools (particularly LLMs - Large Language Models) represents a significant force shaping contemporary work life. AI tools hold promise and uncertainty, and clarity is needed on successfully incorporating them into work processes. This research addresses employee perspectives on using AI for work purposes, and the provision of AI training and guidance from employers.
This research also focuses on the views of employees and how they navigate hybrid work environments. The sample base covers more than 3,000 people, ensuring good coverage of all sizes of organisation, as well as employee seniority and job roles.
This was an online survey, and the sample was equally split between France, Germany, India, Japan, the UK and the US. The report provides insight into the differences and similarities across these markets, particularly in relation to work arrangements, facilities, and meetings.
The number of employees who had used AI for work purposes within the past week has increased by 14 percentage points since the previous research wave, now sitting at 63%. Over half (58%) of the sample feel that AI can be helpful in completing work tasks, and the same figure (58%) feel positive about the use of AI in the workplace.
For two-thirds of respondents, their current work arrangement matches their preferred work arrangement. Satisfaction with one's current work arrangement is highest among fully remote workers and lowest among fully office-based workers. Among the sample, there is no one 'ideal' work arrangement; rather, employee satisfaction is linked to the ability to choose an arrangement aligned with one's needs and preferences.
