This analysis is based on polls designed to help us understand the current sentiment of the business community towards emerging and established technologies.

Key Highlights

In Q3 2022, the number of respondents who felt that the technologies listed would live up to their promises remains high. For four of the seven technologies (AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and 5G), over half of the respondents claimed that they would live up to all their promises. This reflects the significant number of use cases for these technologies.

Those technologies that have been around for some time and are more mature, namely cloud and cybersecurity, were viewed as the most disruptive and more likely to have a tangible impact on companies across different sectors within the next 12 months.

Cybersecurity maintained its position as the technology most respondents believe is already disrupting their industry. Geopolitical tensions and the increasing reputational and financial impact of cyberattacks have made cybersecurity an immediate concern for companies across industries.

Scope

  • Our sentiment polls ran between July and October 2022 on GlobalData's Verdict network of B2B websites, which had 18 million unique visitors in the period from April 2022 to October 2022. In total, 1,423 respondents participated in the survey.
  • The survey focused on seven technologies: 5G, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, blockchain, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things.

Reasons to Buy

  • This survey gives a unique insight into the views of the business community on emerging and established technologies. The responses reveal which technologies executives view as most disruptive, which they believe to be over-hyped, and how their opinion of them has changed over time.
