Tangential flow filtration (TFF), also known as crossflow filtration, is a membrane-based separation technique where a liquid solution flows tangentially across the surface of a filter membrane. This method allows smaller molecules and solvents to pass through the membrane (permeate), while larger particles like proteins, cells, or other macromolecules are retained (retentate). The primary purpose of TFF is to concentrate, clarify, and purify biological products such as proteins, enzymes, antibodies, and cell cultures.
