It works as an isotropic etching agent in electronic items and is used for etching glass and ceramics due to high corrosivity. Apart from this, it acts as an industrial chemical reagent in the atomic energy sector, as an analytical reagent, and is used to make highly pure chemicals that contain fluorine.
